About Feed The City

Feed The City is a not for profit program that utilizes people-power of volunteers to deliver boxes of food from local food banks to community members who are facing barriers to accessing one of our basic human rights - food.

These community members can include:

*Seniors

*People with mobility challenges

*Young or single parents

*People without access to transportation

. Our mission is to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry due to a lack of physical ability or transportation. Through the dedication of our volunteers and the support of our community, we strive to make a meaningful impact on the lives of community members facing food insecurity.

Who We are:

Feed The City began as Ottawa Cares in March 2020, when communities were in lockdown and community members that were already facing mobility and transportation barriers when trying to access food, now were facing even more challenges. Continuing today, we are helping to bridge the gap for community members needing food but who are unable to physically get to their local food bank. Emergency food delivery is a service that has always been, and continues to be, desperately needed.

What we do:

A dedicated team of volunteers use their own vehicles to collect boxes of food that are pre-prepared at community food banks and deliver those boxes to pre-registered recipients. Each and every week, our volunteers deliver approximately 200 boxes of food! Feed The City is also partnered with a local courier company, Gopher It Deliveries, in cases of volunteer shortages or complex deliveries requiring direct-to-door deliveries in apartment buildings.

Why we help:

In 2022, the Ottawa Food Bank logged over 493,000 visits to their partner agencies throughout the City of Ottawa.

While that number can be daunting, consider how many people are unable to visit their local food banks, due to a lack of physical ability and/or transportation. These community members often go without one of the most basic necessities - food.

Feed The City is helping to bridge that gap in our efforts to help alleviate hunger for some of our most vulnerable community members.

Where we help:

Feed The City is currently partnered with 9 community food banks in the City of Ottawa, with more partner agencies being onboarded regularly.
